Books, ideas and writing from different chapters of my life. Blogs and three books from my twenties, on alternative economies, nonviolence, development and theatre as a tool for social change.

Books, ideas and writing from different chapters of my life.

The books below belong to an earlier chapter of my life. They grew out of the questions that absorbed me in my twenties, when I was drawn to alternative economies, the philosophy of nonviolence, new models of development, and fresh approaches to communication, interaction and learning. It was in those same years that I founded Utopie Onlus, a non-profit devoted to nonviolence, sustainable development, non-formal education and responsible travel. In many ways these books are the intellectual foundations of everything that came afterwards.

Economie senza denaro (Economies Without Money)

I sistemi di scambio non monetario nell’economia di mercato (EMI, 2003)

A study of non-monetary exchange and how it works within, and alongside, the market economy. The book surveys complementary and community currencies, time banks, local exchange networks, and gift-based systems across both industrialised countries and the Global South, arguing that trust, reciprocity, and social bonds are forms of wealth that conventional economics tends to overlook.

Il Teatro come Utopia (Theatre as Utopia)

Giochi, drammatizzazioni e creatività per il cambiamento sociale (Ginsberg, 1999)

A practical and theoretical exploration of theatre as a tool for social change. Drawing on games, improvisation and dramatisation, and on traditions such as Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, it treats performance as a form of non-formal education: a way to build empathy, rehearse conflict, and help a group understand and transform its own reality.

The Natural Economic Order

Silvio Gesell (2000)

A classic of alternative economics, presented here among the works that shaped my thinking. Gesell’s proposal for “free money” that loses value when it is hoarded, together with his ideas on the reform of land ownership, sketched a radically different economic order. It remains an essential reference for anyone thinking seriously about money, interest and sustainable development.

Old Blogs

Not everything I published took the form of a book. Before social media became the dominant way of sharing experiences online, I wrote three personal blogs from three very different places: Ireland, New York and Albania.

Utopie Irlandesi, Utopie Newyorkesi and Utopie Albanesi document different periods of my life abroad, combining personal observations, work, travel and reflections on the places and societies I was living in.

Together, they are also snapshots of an earlier internet, when personal blogs were independent spaces for longer-form writing, discussion and exchange.
